I would like to have a news ticker on my site that displays news from another website that has an rss feed. Is there an easy way to do this?

You need to click on “Add to My Yahoo.”
Try searching for a “RSS Directory” in the search engine.
Youtube has videos explaining RSS.
You can display and provide links for your Y!A questions and the news on your Y!360 and Myspace pages with a RSS feed.
http://myspace.com/22449233
http://rssonmyspace.com
My RSS feed in Myspace updates faster for my Y!A questions than the one in Y!360.
Find your list of questions.
To the right of your first question you will see RSS.
Click on it with the right button then left click to copy shortcut (URL).
In your Y!360 click “My Page.”
http://360.yahoo.com/
Click “Edit Feeds.”
Right click on one of the three boxes to paste the shortcut (URL).
Then save.
You can also display information from:
Yahoo! My Web
Yahoo! News (for specific subjects like your state, country, or corporation)
http://news.yahoo.com/rss
MSN News
BBC News
Myspace Blogs
Craigslist, CNET, Youtube, Netflix, Flickr, Gizmodo, Forbes.

Well, it seems that thats just how it is, because all the text on line 92 is written out all the way to the right, and it is just ‘pushed’ by Javascript all the way from right to left.
No matter how much tampering I did with the code, I couldn’t cahgne it. So you may want to consider a new ticker.

I’d like a program that can display the weather AND display feeds (RSS, Facebook, etc) full screen so that I can have it on the computer I run so that it displays that while it is not in use. Kinda like how those things you see that shows tickers of news in public places like the mall…
I’d like if its free, but if it does need to be paid, I’d want a cheap one… or if any, just pitch in any suggestion…. Thanks!

I am working on an internal site for a group in my company. I would like to create an “alert” ticker using RSS / XML, so that I can quickly display alerts on the main page. I want it to be easy to use so that anyone can add / edit / delete alerts with little to no HTML knowledge. I would also like for them to automatically scroll horizontally to the left, or vertically up. I would not like to use PHP or anything sophisticated, would prefer JavaScript.
PLEASE HELP!! Thanks

There are 2 ways to go, depending on whether you want to host the code on your server or not. I’d go with #2 because you can get it setup within about 5 – 10 minutes.
If you want to manage your own code, you can use this JavaScript tool: http://www.rss-to-javascript.com/.
It seems like a very easy way to do what you need to and no programming experience is necessary to manage it. .
An even easier way to display RSS feeds can be found through this site: http://www.feedroll.com/rssviewer/
Feedroll literally lets you copy and paste up to 5 RSS feeds on ther site, then you can customize the look of the rss viewer. Very easy to use & a great tool.

Actually, I’m willing to pay if it is not free but it is *good*. I have downloaded several and am getting tired of installing buggy software on my OS.
I’m using Windows XP.
I’d most like to read RSS likes news. I’d like to have it all downloaded so I can read offline (no lag from pages loading). I run a NNTP server to do this with usenet.
I’m interested in running a ticker as well. Suggestions?
I was kind of hoping for a distraction with the tickers since it might help me to remember that I have RSS to read lol. If I get in the habit of reading the RSS perhaps the ticker wouldn’t be necessary.
I hate the idea of using a web-based service for this…. So much slower than an application running on my computer (can’t remember the term for these different types of applications). Slimware, something like that?

maybe you can try this software called VIP Rumor RSS Reader.
it is a freeware, and it reduces time and effort needed to frequently check websites for updates, creating a unique information place or personal newspaper.
you can get it from http://www.brothersoft.com/vip-rumor-rss-reader-59240.html
wish you enjoy it!

Found this script here at this link for a ticker:
http://www.mioplanet.com/rsc/newsticker_javascript.htm
At the bottom it says you can use RSS data source. I want to use the ticker to display yahoos top stories.
Link to yahoos top stories RSS:
http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/topstories
Does anyone know how to do this?

Try XML. It’s used for storing and transferring data back and forth over the internet, to databases and such. The Java ticker has been used for a long time. You could pull the XML file via Javascript.

This is a great question, but I think it’s outside the scope of Computer Networking. If it was my question, I’d try reposting over in Business & Finance, or even better, Advertising and Marketing. Here’s the link:

Good luck!

I am using Google Ajax dynamic feed control
(http://www.google.com/uds/solutions/wiza... which basically compiles rss feeds from different sites and generates a code so i can embed them as a single news ticker on my site.
The code lists each site feed individually. Is there a way I can create a link to let people subscribe to the news ticker on my site? It’s kind of hard to explain, let me know if you need more details. Thanks!

I actually have 3 questions. the 2nd is what is an rss feed and what does it do? The 3rd question is: switched to Firefox browser ( too much trouble with IE) but my stock ticker stopped working with a message that says the service requires an activeX enabled browser. How do I turn that on? Or, can I? Is it an add on or does FireFox not support that? Thanks.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a set of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content. such as An RSS document contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that’s easier than checking them manually.
RSS content can be read using software called an “RSS reader”, “feed reader” or an “aggregator”. The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed’s link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user’s subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds.
I don’t use Fixfox, but I told that Sage is a lightweight RSS feed reader extension for Firefox. .
Firefox does not support ActiveX controls by default. Mozilla decided not to support ActiveX due to potential security vulnerabilities, its proprietary nature and its lack of cross-platform compatibility. There are plugins that allow you to use ActiveX in Firefox. They do not work in all versions of Firefox or on all platforms See the “Plug-in For Hosting ActiveX Controls”
